On October 13, 2023, an armed Israeli settler entered the Palestinian village of at-Tuwani in the southern West Bank and shot Zakariyah Al Adra in the abdomen. The bullet caused severe internal injuries, damaging multiple organs. “I felt like my whole body was on fire,” Zakariyah recalled. He was transported to a hospital, where he underwent eleven surgeries and spent nearly two months in intensive care. Although the incident was captured on video by Zakariyah’s cousin, no charges have been filed and the settler has not been arrested.
